Rethinking Recognition: Emerging Trends in Assessing and Credentialing Learning

What do we really mean by recognition—and how does it shape the ways we assess and credential learning?

Over the past several decades, Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR) has become widely accepted, with well-established practices across institutions and countries. Yet, as policies and recognition frameworks have expanded globally, innovation in how we actually assess, document, and validate prior learning has not kept pace.

This session will:

  • Examine emerging trends in assessment strategies.

  • Explore new approaches to collecting and verifying learning outcomes.

  • Consider how credentialing practices and messaging influence learners today.

Key Takeaways

Participants will gain insights into:

  • Current challenges in recognition and credentialing.

  • Opportunities for innovation in assessment practices.

  • Ways to better serve learners through more responsive and forward-thinking recognition frameworks.

Join us to explore how recognition is evolving—and how we can reimagine it to meet the needs of today’s learners.
